SOUL REVEAL

Just saw myself on the cover of “Dream Network Journal,” 2014, Spring Edition,   http://dreamnetwork.net. That’s me, inside the cocoon. As I look at the image of myself, I feel tears springing up in my eyes. What brought about this sudden upsurge in emotion? I believe it’s that raw feeling of being vulnerable and exposed. You know, it’s like the dream where I show up at an event, but I’ve forgotten my clothes? Bet you haven’t had that dream, wink!

But I’ve digressed. Back to the image of me inside the cocoon. If you look closely at the image, you’ll see a prison cell, but the door is open.  Being a dreamer, I ponder the metaphor and its implications. Butterfly, in ancient Greek, when translated, means soul. So I consider how I’ve opened the door to my soul and the ways in which I’m revealing my soul, which in turn, sets me free.

One of the ways I reveal my soul is in dream sharing. Any experienced dreamer will tell you that dreams leave no stone unturned. People who know your dreams, know you, I mean REALLY know you, your fears, your insecurities, your deepest wishes, your obstacles, your inspirations, everything!

Another way I reveal my soul is through the written word. Years ago, I wrote an allegorical tale called Earth’s Tiny Star. It’s about a soul looking for love and forgetting, and then finding herself. Now I won’t call this book an autobiography, but I’ll divulge that it bears some similarities to the human drama, and maybe, just maybe, it reminds me a little of me, just saying…

As if my soul isn’t being revealed enough, I also write poetry. Any poets out there? Well, if you are, I bet you know that poetry COMPLETELY BYpasses the part of the brain that censors and analyzes. When I sit and write poetry, I never know what will show up in my words. Like a kid in a candy store, I wait for the deliciousness of self-discovery.

Finally, if you’re reading this, you know I sometimes blog and write articles. I tell stories, in the moment, as they’re happening in my life, in real-time, with commentary and sometimes even a few deep thoughts.

Whew! Just reading about all of this soul revealing feels exhausting to me! Think I’ll go back inside my cocoon—- for now…

Here’s my poem that accompanies the image in “Dream Network Journal,”  found on p. 3.

THE TRUTH

Standing on the brink
in the abyss,
arms around myself,
holding on,
then hearing faintly in a distance—

badoomp badoomp badoomp,
and growing louder,
badoomp badoomp badoomp…

The tide is low<
lower than it’s been in over 20 years,
badoomp badoomp badoomp;

 going deeper and deeper than ever before,
seeing life below the surface,
exposed and uncovered;

 it’s true, it’s true, it’s true;
Inside me there’s a knowing,
it’s true, it’s true, it’s true;

Discovering the braided gold,
shining in my hands,
there’s been nothing like it in over 20 years;

 I’ve been imprisoned,
on the grounds,
then locking the place down
for my own safety;

badoomp badoomp badoomp;

on the brink,
arms around myself,
holding on
in the dark;

nothing like it in over 20 years;

hearing the drumbeat of my heart,
the impulse
growing louder and stronger,

be true, be true, be true,

cracked pot,
leaking energy,
the life is sucked from my bones,

be true, be true, be true,
nothing like it in over 20 years;

darkness persists
with imaginal discs,
holding memories
of butterfly wings and antennae…

but my legacy! no, wait !
live, laugh, love,

be true, be true, be true…
nothing like it in over 20 years…

stuck,
holding on,
hoping,
believing,
leaking,
being,

be true, be true, be true…

imagining,
dreaming,
believing,
expanding,

be true, be true, be true;

Breaking free!

breathing,
reaching,
being,

it’s true, it’s true, it’s true…

expanding,
being,

be true, be true, be true,
nothing like it in over 20 years;

 be-ing true, be-ing true, be-ing true.

 being, being, being…
