Music – The Unifier

A few nights ago, I witnessed the most beautiful thing. I was invited to a church choir concert by a friend. This was no ordinary concert. Four different churches from different faiths were invited to sing, along with the very talented Westminster College Chamber Singers.

As I arrive at the Cottonwood Heights Presbyterian Church these amazing children ages 8 to 14 are playing the most incredible piece on their violins. I later found out they were taught the Suzuki Method, where they learn to play by ear at a very young age.  Each Choir then sings one to two songs, very true to their specific religion but all singing the Universal message of worship and love. My ears were in heaven. The young adults from Westminster College displayed their years of training by singing four songs and showcasing soloists that made you want to fall to your knees and cry. To conclude the concert and with the direction of Bruce Avery, my friend’s dad, all the choirs stood up and sang “The Lord’s Prayer”.  I could hear and feel the roaring sounds from beneath my feet. The power in their voices made me feel like I was in a safe place and nothing could harm me, and if it did, so what, I would die completely content and peacefully. If that wasn’t enough there was one last song where all choirs sang accompanied by the organ and the beautiful children violinists. A gathering like that can restore faith where one has lost it. I was so very blessed to have witnessed it!

With everything going on in this world, hope and faith sneak in at the most opportune time. Music is the one UNIFIER of all faiths and religions. Feeling the power of something greater than your self is truly amazing. Whether you are religious or not, find something that moves you, something that can bring you to tears and then you will know what is truly important in life.

WORD PLAY: Since I love playing with dream and synchronicity, let’s play with the word “unifier”. I thought uniter was a word but didn’t find it in the English dictionary, which led me to unifier. I look at this word and think of “One Fire” which then makes me think of “One Passion”.  What do you think of?
